Punta Arenas

Colorful and lively, this city hidden at the end of the world, located on the Brunswick Peninsula, on the shores of the Strait of Magellan (a waterway that connects the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans), is the capital of Chilean Patagonia and the Magallanes Region.

It was formerly called Punta Arenosa, a literal translation of the English name "Sand Point," given by John Byron in the 17th century. This is where the cultural, commercial, and social development of the entire Magallanes territory began. It is the southernmost continental city on the planet (Ushuaia, considered the southernmost city in the world, is located on the Island of Tierra del Fuego, in Argentina).

It has 115,000 inhabitants and is 3,090 km from Santiago, being an important supply port between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. From here, it is possible to take excursions to the main tourist spots in the region, which are mostly natural resources and their beauty. These can be visited by land, sea, and air, with a wide variety of tours offered by agencies, but adventurers can also organize their own trips according to their own interests.
