Puerto Madryn

The city of Puerto Madryn is located on the shores of the blue waters of the Golfo Nuevo, along the coast of Chubut Province, perched on the cliffs of a small plateau that offers a stunning view of the Atlantic Ocean.

The whale-watching season is one of the tourist attractions that made the beautiful city of Puerto Madryn known around the world. From June to December, various whale species arrive along its shores, coming directly from the south. These whales can be observed on boat tours departing from Puerto Pirámides, as well as from natural viewpoints and almost all the beaches bordering the city.

Thanks to the large number of divers from around the world who have chosen it, Puerto Madryn has developed numerous artificial reefs in recent years, popular for traditional introductory dives. It is no coincidence that this city is known throughout the country as the national capital of diving.

Founded in 1865 with the arrival of 150 Welsh immigrants, the name Puerto Madryn refers to Sir Love Jones Parry, Baron of Madryn, one of the most renowned men in Wales at the time.
Today, with thousands of tourists visiting each year, Puerto Madryn remains the main tourist service hub on the Patagonian coast and the gateway to the vast Valdés Peninsula, declared a Natural World Heritage Site in 1999.

All of Madryn’s beach resorts are equipped with the necessary infrastructure for numerous water activities, especially windsurfing and, of course, diving.

Due to its particular geographic location, rainfall is low throughout the year, and the average annual temperature is around 14°C, with summer highs reaching 35°C and winter lows dropping below 5°C.

To reach Puerto Madryn from Buenos Aires, you must travel 1,400 kilometers along National Route 3. Several airlines offer daily flights to the city or to Trelew, which is 67 km away, a distance that can be covered by transfer services.
