Valdés Peninsula

Few places in the world offer the opportunity to observe, in their natural environment, the quantity and diversity of animals and species that appear each year in the Valdés Peninsula. This may have been what astonished the researcher Charles Darwin back in 1847.

Located on the Atlantic Ocean, 1,450 kilometers from Buenos Aires and 77 kilometers from Puerto Madryn, the Valdés Peninsula is a Protected Natural Area. Every year, at different times, it receives massive southern right whales, sea lions, elephant seals, penguins, orcas, dolphins, seabirds, as well as guanacos, rheas, maras, foxes, and other terrestrial species. It offers a wide range of activities: whale watching, diving, trekking, horseback riding, visits to penguin colonies, 4x4 excursions, fishing, rural and gastronomic tourism.

It is the place chosen by the southern right whale for reproduction. Every year, from June to December, these magnificent animals can be seen putting on an unforgettable show. Orcas arrive at the beaches between February and May, while dolphins can be spotted year-round. Sea lions are present throughout the year, and penguins from September to March.

The region has good infrastructure – hotels, restaurants, and services – to welcome visitors seeking adventure and contact with nature.

The biodiversity and natural wealth of this region of the Atlantic Patagonia led to its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.
